Residential Workshop, Irelands West Coast, Galway County.

Residential voice workshop exploring basic foundation technique to improve your singing voice through World Music from many cultures and traditions. Group singing, improvisation, harmony singing, breath work, confidence issues, relax in a beautiful rural setting.  There is accommodation for between 5 and 10 participants (depending on requests for private/shared/ensuite rooms).

WORKSHOP FACILITATOR

Helen Webb is the musical director for the Galway Multicultural Community Choir. Helen’s workshops are heart centred and will take you on a journey of discovery from efficient breathing to helpful posture and more satisfying vocal resonance. You will learn beautiful songs and chants in an energized and relaxing atmosphere from an experienced professional teacher and performer.  See Helen’s biog and links below.

Helen has a teaching centre and vocal studio three miles from the coastal village of Kinvara in the west of Ireland.  Kinvara is well known in Galway County for it’s creative atmosphere and it’s very acitve traditional and modern acoustic music scene. There are traditional Irish pubs, restaurants and bars and a beautiful harbour and castle. Helen’s centre is situated very well for touring the west coast of Ireland and lies between the Burren, the Cliffs of Mohar and Connemarra. A local sightseeing trip can be arRanged, as well as a visit to a local live acoustic music venue

WORKSHOP FEES

Only 100 euros for the whole 3 days if you book before Dec 31st 2010, and 150 euros after Dec 31st 2010.  Book early to ensure your place, as the workshop numbers will depend on room requirements.

130 euros covers accommodation and workshop fees for thee days, if you choose the cheapest accommodation option from the choices below and book before Dec 31st.

190 euros covers the workshop fee for three days plus a private ensuite room.

ACCOMMODATION

The centre is at Crannagh near Kinvara in Galway County, 3 miles from the sea. It is a large attractive five bedroom house with beautiful views, wooden floors, large spacious rooms, an outbuilding, central heating, double glazing, an open fire, dishwasher, washing machine and dryer and large garden.

30 euros per night for a private ensuite double room (20 euros pp for two sharing)

20 euros per night for a  private double room (15 euros pp for 2 people sharing,)

10 euros pp for up to 5 sharing a large dormitory room.

Accommodation is self catering with shared meal times scheduled into the workshop programme (Eating and shopping arrangements available on request, and all suggestions welcomed.)

HELEN WEBB

Singing Teacher, Composer, Vocalist, Actress. I am a professional singer and performer and I come from a family of singers actors, and musicians. I now specialize in soul, rock blues jazz and all forms of popular and world music, although I have previously worked as a classical singer in the chorus at Covent Garden and as a concert soloist with Joshua Rifkin. I have also performed extensively in West End musical shows, and for many years in bands, TV and session recording.

As an actress I have performed in BBC dramas (notably “A Hole In Babylon”) and with touring rep companies (notably “The Oxford Playhouse Company”)  recently I played a leading  acting/singing role in “This Way To The Gas” at the Brighton Festival.

I recently performed my own original songs at the “Spirit of Voice Festival” in Galway and I am recording an original song called “Mother Tongue” for the 2010 compilation album from “Sean Agus Nua” a Galway based arts project. My own album “The Song Inside” will be digitally released in July 2010 when it will be available on iTunes (now available).

I currently have private teaching practices in County Galway and in London where I work with beginners and experienced singers of all ages.

I have been employed as a singing teacher for TV production companies (notably Princess Productions), management, and record companies.  I have run regular voice workshops for the Welsh Arts Council and Cambridgeshire Social Services for children and adults, and for students at University College, London. I was also employed as vocal coach at Red Roofs Drama College, Maidenhead (for ages eleven to twenty) and City and Islington College, North London (ages fifteen and older).

I have worked as a teacher and/or performer with Sam Wannamaker, Joshua Rifkin, Lulu, Hazel O’Conner, Nick Turner from Hawkwind, Shakin’ Stevens, PJ Proby, Alvin Stardust plus many more. I have also recently taught members of the successful rock band ” Razorlite”

I am currently studying for a degree Ethnomusicology which includes learning traditional singing styles from Africa and kora a traditional West African harp.  I have a great interest in World Music and traditional singing from all cultures and traditions.

I was choir mistress for “The Glorious Life Chorus” a Buddhist community choir in London for two years.  The chorus regularly performed at the Barbican, London and I am now musical director for the “The Big Sing” (The Galway multicultural Community Choir) I recently conducted the choir’s performance in the Macnas parade, an annual large scale musical/theatrical event which is part of the Galway Arts Festival.

I appeared live on Galway Bay FM radio station on Friday 6th August 2010 to perform my composition “Poison River” for the Arts Programme
